Linux ERP

The Linux operating system is growing in popularity by the day. A number of giant ERP vendors have had ERP software that running on the platform, such as SAP and Oracle. Today you will easily find Linux ERP but not all products are open source software. SAP R/3 and Oracle Business Suite are some of proprietary Linux ERP.

In my opinion, if your organization has limited resource and only focus on business solution, you had better implement proprietary Linux ERP software. Yes of course you have chance to change open source Linux ERP to address your company requirements but It’s not easy and you must provide software development team to develop and maintain the software release. Another reason why I prefer proprietary ERP is they developed software based on proved business process.

The open source Linux ERP has more benefit for students, software developers or organizations that want to create commercial ERP software rapidly without need to develop it from scratch. They can sell the software or offer paid service for implementing and maintaining the software.

Here is some open source ERP Linux which many people recommend:

1. Compiere.  They offer four editions : Community (free), Standard, Professional and Enterprise edition. InfoWorld Selects Compiere as Best of Open Source Software for Second Consecutive Year. In this edition you will get application source code and core ERP & CRM Functionality for Financial Management, Purchasing, Materials Management, Order Management, Project Accounting, Sales, Service, eCommerce, and Performance Management and Reporting. 2. OpenBravo. They come with 2 editions : Community (free) and Professional Edition. Both of editions has core Finance, Sales, Purchasing, Inventory.  Open source modules are available for all editions. You can use PostgreSQL or Oracle for backend platform.

I’ve tried several of these, but ERP5 or Open ERP are probably my favorite.
